Crafting my scenes gained inspiration from an unusual group of readers who piqued my attention: adults who read young adult fiction. Curious, I investigated deeper into what drew them into teenage action, adventure, and romance. The conclusion came as a small surprise. The age of the characters had little to do with intrigue. It more had to do with two key components: moderate language and appropriate intimate relationships amid nail-biting scenarios.

Therefore, while this tale contains all the fantastical qualities of a superhero story—weapons and life or death situations—I opted to give the rudiments of life a gentler, wider appeal so both older and younger audiences might enjoy the journey.
